Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, during a rally in Jharkhand on Friday, sharply criticized the BJP for its alleged attempts to undermine tribal rights over their “Jal, Jungle, Jameen” (water, forest, land). He claimed that the BJP’s version of “development” aimed to seize tribal land and resources. Gandhi also criticized Prime Minister Modi’s reference to tribals as “vanvasi,” accusing the BJP of aligning with capitalists at the expense of the tribal community’s welfare.
Further, Gandhi reiterated his position on the attack on the Constitution by the BJP, stressing the Congress-led INDIA alliance’s commitment to its protection. He announced plans to raise the reservation for Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Other Backward Classes (OBCs) if his party came to power.
With the Jharkhand assembly elections approaching on November 13 and 20, Gandhi’s remarks will ignite intense political debates, especially regarding the protection of tribal rights and the reform of the reservation system.
