New Delhi: On September 12, 2025, the Indian Navy commissioned its latest naval base, INS Aravali, at Gurugram in a ceremony led by Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff. The event marks a significant advancement for naval command, control, and maritime security operations in the Indian Ocean region.

Commissioning Ceremony Highlights

The commissioning included a 50-men Guard of Honour to Admiral Tripathi, invocation in Sanskrit by Captain Sachin Kumar Singh (the unit’s first Commanding Officer), and formal reading of the commissioning warrant. Mrs. Shashi Tripathi, President NWWA, unveiled the commissioning plaque, followed by the hoisting of the Naval Ensign to the National Anthem and breaking of the commissioning pennant on the mast.

Distinguished guests included Vice Adm Sanjay Vatsayan, VCNS, Vice Adm Tarun Sobti, DCNS, senior officers, and dignitaries. Admiral Tripathi congratulated the crew, urging them to uphold the Navy’s values of Duty, Honour, and Courage, and to strive for excellence through information dominance.

Strategic Role and Vision

INS Aravali is named after the resilient Aravali mountain range, symbolizing unwavering strength and vigilance. The base is envisioned as a hub for technology and collaboration that links Indian Navy platforms and partners across oceans, in line with the Prime Minister’s MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions) vision.

The base’s crest features mountain imagery and a rising sun, representing resilience, eternal vigilance, and the dawn of new technological capability. As a vital support centre for information and communication operations, INS Aravali fortifies India’s maritime command, control, and Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) framework.

Motto and Operational Ethos

Guided by the motto ‘सामुद्रिकसुरक्षायाः सहयोगं’—‘Maritime Security through Collaboration’—INS Aravali is set to work seamlessly with naval units, MDA centres, and allied stakeholders. The base will reinforce supportive and collaborative ethos to enable vigilance and defend India’s maritime interests.

Conclusion

INS Aravali’s commissioning is a testament to India’s dedication to secure and technologically advanced maritime operations. The Gurugram base will elevate the Navy’s information dominance and strengthen India’s role as the preferred security partner in the Indian Ocean region.
