Technology for Efficient Water Management: CWC Virtual Workshop as Part of Sujalam Bharat Summit: 2025

New Delhi: The Central Water Commission (CWC), under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, organized a significant virtual workshop titled “Technology for Efficient Water Management” on September 24, 2025. This workshop was part of the broader Sujalam Bharat Summit, focused on water management, aligned with the Prime Minister’s vision to bring grassroots perspectives into national policymaking.

Gathering Diverse Experiences

The workshop featured contributions from multiple states including Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Haryana, and the NRSC Hyderabad. It importantly included voices from grassroots representatives such as gram panchayat and Water User Association members spanning remote regions from Leh in the north to Tamil Nadu in the south, and from villages in Arunachal Pradesh and Odisha. This diverse participation aimed to ensure practical feedback from ground realities.



Workshop Highlights and Focus Areas

Chaired by Sh. Atul Jain, Chairman of CWC, with key inputs from Shri Yogesh Paithankar (Member, WP&P, CWC) and Ms. Archana Verma (AS & Mission Director, National Water Mission), the workshop emphasized several core themes:

  • Agricultural Efficiency: Promoting micro-irrigation, precision agriculture, and crop diversification to enhance water use efficiency and climate resilience.

  • Modernization and Automation: Implementing remote sensing, AI technologies for improving water resource planning, leak detection, and monitoring.

  • Water Conservation and Accounting: Advocating efficient appliances usage, bulk water monitoring, and water accounting for informed decision-making.

State presentations showcased innovative, community-led initiatives ranging from water management technologies to Panchayat-driven programs, reflecting the rich diversity of Indian water management challenges and solutions.

Leadership Insights and Conclusion

In her opening remarks, Smt. Archana Verma highlighted the importance of multisectoral stakeholder involvement for successful technology adoption. Shri Yogesh Paithankar underscored water demand management strategies critical to reduce freshwater stress. In his concluding comments, Chairman Atul Jain called for a holistic approach beyond infrastructure, focusing on sustainable water security to safeguard the nation’s future.

The workshop reaffirmed the deep commitment to integrating technology and grassroots insights in evolving India’s water management policies effectively.
