Ministry of Ayush Inaugurates India’s First Integrative Oncology Research and Care Centre at AIIA Goa: 2025

Breaking News

New Delhi: The Ministry of Ayush has inaugurated the country’s first Integrative Oncology Research and Care Centre (IORCC) at All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), Dhargal, Goa, to mark the 10th National Ayurveda Day. This pioneering facility integrates Ayurveda, Yoga, Panchakarma, physiotherapy, diet therapy, and modern oncology for holistic cancer rehabilitation—bringing together traditional and biomedical disciplines for patient-centric and evidence-informed care.

Centre Features and Objectives

IORCC is a multidisciplinary centre that supports cancer patients with comprehensive rehabilitation, blending surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation with Ayurvedic therapies. Key goals include improving recovery rates, reducing treatment side effects, and strengthening immunity, with protocols validated by collaborative research.

Landmark Collaboration

The centre is a collaborative initiative involving the Ministry of Ayush, AIIA Goa, and ACTREC-Tata Memorial Centre, aiming to set new benchmarks for integrative oncology care. Monthly clinics convene multidisciplinary panels of oncologists and AYUSH experts to devise individualized, evidence-based care plans for complex cancer cases.

Leadership and Innovation

The IORCC’s leadership team includes Prof. Dr. Sujata Kadam (Dean, AIIA Goa), Dr. Sanjay Khedekar (Convener), senior oncologists like Dr. Shekhar Salkar, and experts from both AYUSH and Tata Memorial Centre. The centre will serve as a hub for clinical care, research, and professional training, advancing validated integrative protocols that optimize safety, efficacy, and patient outcomes.

National Health Integration

IORCC’s launch aligns with India’s National Health Policy and global best practices, promising to boost the nation’s integrative healthcare ecosystem. By combining the strengths of both modern medicine and Ayurveda, the centre aims to become a replicable model for cancer care throughout India.

Conclusion

India’s first IORCC at AIIA Goa represents a major step toward holistic cancer healing—advancing research, training, and patient-focused care at the intersection of Ayurveda and biomedical oncology.
