Ministry of Tourism Celebrates World Tourism Day 2025 with Theme “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation”

New Delhi: On September 27, 2025, the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, celebrated World Tourism Day with a special focus on “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation.” The event, held at Sushma Swaraj Bhawan, New Delhi, brought together government representatives, industry leaders, academics, and civil society members, reaffirming India’s commitment to cultural exchange, economic growth, and sustainable tourism practices aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.

Key Highlights and Messages

  • Shri Suman Bery, Vice Chairperson of NITI Aayog and Chief Guest, emphasized tourism’s role as a powerful engine for economic transformation, environmental stewardship, and social inclusion. He called for integrating transport, urban development, digital technologies, and infrastructure to ensure seamless connectivity, reduce pressure on tourist hubs, and create equitable benefits beyond major centers.

  • Minister of State for Tourism Shri Suresh Gopi highlighted government schemes like Swadesh Darshan 2.0 and PRASHAD, promoting eco-friendly accommodations, rural and village tourism, and digital innovations through revamped platforms.



Strategic Partnerships and Initiatives

  • MoUs were signed with Netflix to promote Indian destinations through cinematic storytelling, Atithi Foundation to support strategic research and capacity building, and leading Online Travel Agencies for visitor feedback and data-driven policy.

  • The Project Management Information System (PMIS) was launched to enable digital monitoring and efficient management of tourism infrastructure.

  • The 66th edition of the India Tourism Data Compendium was released, highlighting record international and domestic tourist arrivals, employment growth, and India’s rise to 20th rank globally in international arrivals.

Special Programs and Sessions

  • A booklet guiding stakeholders on MUDRA loan applications for homestays was launched.

  • A high-level panel on transportation involving road, aviation, railways, and shipping ministries stressed the importance of seamless multi-modal connectivity.

  • Thematic sessions showcased successful case studies such as Mahakumbh 2025 and the Statue of Unity, and discussed Destination Management Organizations (DMOs) and emerging technology applications like AI, AR/VR, and digital twins for enhanced visitor experience and planning.
