J P Nadda Presides Over 3rd Foundation Day of AIIMS Bilaspur, Showcasing Rapid Progress and Expansion

Breaking News

Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Shri J P Nadda, presided as the Chief Guest at the third Foundation Day celebrations of AIIMS Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh, marking significant milestones in the institute’s evolution as a premier healthcare and research center within just three years of its establishment. Shri Nadda was joined by senior leaders including Shri Anurag Thakur and Himachal Health Minister Col. Dr. Dhani Ram Shandil, underlining the institute’s importance for both the state and the region.

State-of-the-Art Growth and Innovations

Shri Nadda highlighted AIIMS Bilaspur’s achievements: advanced MRI, CT, PET-CT scans, endoscopy suites, and bronchoscopy suites are now operational. Facilities like 734+ beds, 64 ICU beds, renal, and corneal transplant capabilities, and a regional virology research lab mark the hospital’s journey towards comprehensive tertiary care for Himachal Pradesh and neighboring states. Eight successful kidney transplants and the rapid commissioning of new specialized departments stand testament to AIIMS Bilaspur’s standards.

Reducing Out-of-Pocket Expenditure and Expanding Access

A major milestone has been the reduction in out-of-pocket expenses for patients, with locals no longer needing to travel to centers like PGI Chandigarh for advanced procedures. Over 20,000 patients now receive free treatment under schemes like Himcare and Ayushman Bharat.

Strengthening Medical Education and Infrastructure

  • 127 new faculty and non-faculty posts have been sanctioned, with an expedited selection process to fill them.

  • Construction of a 500-bed Vishram Sadan for patient relatives and ₹165 crore for staff quarters and student hostels has begun, along with ₹5 crore pledged for an indoor stadium.

  • The government eyes continued growth—medical colleges in India have increased to 808, with annual UG seats up from 35,000 to 1.25 lakh, and a projected 75,000 more seats in five years.

Future Roadmap and Collaborations

A team with NITI Aayog and the Indian Institute of Public Administration will chart future growth for all AIIMS institutes. Planned expansions include a bone marrow transplant center, trauma block, robotic surgery, drone-based medical logistics, and multilevel parking.

Celebrating Institutional Ethos and Achievements

During the ceremony, AIIMS Bilaspur’s official Kulgeet was released. Meritorious students and staff were felicitated, acknowledging the academic, research, and service excellence that has rapidly become a hallmark of the institute. Shri Nadda urged that AIIMS Bilaspur emulate the successes of other AIIMS centers and foster continued innovation.

Conclusion: Foundation Day

Guided by the motto “Sarve Santu Niramaya,” AIIMS Bilaspur stands at the forefront of healthcare, education, and research in northern India. In just three years, it has become a beacon of advanced care, training, and innovation, supported by unwavering governmental backing and ongoing ambitious expansion plans.
