The Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) has demonstrated strong commitment to the nationwide Swachhata Hi Seva – 2025 initiative, organized from 17th September to 2nd October 2025. This campaign, jointly led by the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a cleaner and more sustainable India.

Cleaning Operations and Volunteer Participation

MHI, along with its Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) and Autonomous Bodies (ABs), identified over 90 Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs) and 45 public places for thorough cleaning operations. More than 2,000 volunteers actively participated in these efforts, showcasing a collective effort toward enhancing cleanliness and hygiene in workspaces and public areas.

In synchronization with the wider campaign, MHI and its associated entities launched the “Swachhotsav” series of creative, people-centric initiatives. These included Waste-to-Art exhibitions, painting competitions based on the slogan “Ek Kadam Swachhta Ki Ore” (One Step Towards Cleanliness), and tree plantation drives. These activities engaged schools, colleges, hospitals, health clinics, and civil society organizations, amplifying community involvement.

Notable Program Highlights

  • BBJ, a CPSE, conducted a Swachhata Shramdaan at its Heavy Plant Yard in Kolkata, emphasizing public and employee engagement in cleanliness.

Impact and Commitment

These initiatives have transformed the campaign into a people’s movement for environmentally responsible behavior and community welfare.
