The accused, identified as Jeevan Gowda, is a fifth-semester student. The complainant, a seventh-semester student, filed a police report on October 15 after confiding in two friends and informing her parents. According to the police, the complainant is a seventh-semester student. Due to a backlog in one of her subjects, she had been attending a fifth-semester class, where she became acquainted with the accused around three months ago. Their interaction was mostly academic, but the situation escalated unexpectedly on the day of the incident.

Based on the FIR filed with the Hanumanthanagar police, the female student told authorities that she had a class in the morning at 8:55 a.m. She had informed Jeevan Gowda that she would meet him later to collect some personal items. Around 1:30 p.m., during the lunch break, he called her and asked her to meet him in their block.

After meeting, she stated that he took her to the seventh floor of the architecture block, where he allegedly behaved aggressively. She tried to leave, but he followed her to the sixth floor and then forcibly pulled her into the men’s washroom, locking the door behind them. Inside the washroom, she alleged that Gowda took her mobile phone and kept it in his pocket, especially after noticing an incoming call from her friend. She told police that he then sexually assaulted her between 1:30 p.m. and 1:50 p.m.

Later that same day, the accused allegedly contacted her again and asked whether she “wanted pills”  a reference that has been included in the complaint. At the time, the victim did not report the incident due to fear and emotional trauma. However, with the support of two close friends and her parents, she approached the police five days later, on October 15.

The Hanumanthanagar police registered a case under Section 64 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with rape-related offences.
