In a significant security operation in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district, at least 10 Maoists were killed during an encounter with security forces on Friday. The operation, which involved the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), took place in the dense jungles of Korajuguda, Dantewada, Nagaram, and Bhandarpadar areas of Sukma.
Inspector General of Police for the Bastar range, Sunderaj P, confirmed the casualties and stated that the security forces had received intelligence about the presence of Maoist fighters in the region.
The security forces have yet to confirm the identities of the Maoists killed, but they have recovered several weapons from the scene, including INSAS rifles, AK-47s, and SLR rifles. The search operation continues as forces comb the area for more militants.
IG Sunderaj P stated that security forces have recovered multiple firearms and expect more details as the operation continues. He added that security forces are continuing their efforts to eradicate Maoist presence from the region.
This encounter follows a similar operation in Odisha’s Malakangiri district, where security forces killed one Maoist in an exchange of fire.
The fight against Maoist insurgents in Chhattisgarh remains a high priority for both state and national authorities. Chhattisgarh aims for a Naxal-free India by 2026, with nearly 200 Maoists eliminated and 600-700 militants surrendering.
