New Delhi: Speaking on the 75th Constitution Day, Delhi High Court Chief Justice Manmohan highlighted the Indian Constitution’s enduring relevance as a “living document” that evolves to meet contemporary needs. Addressing a gathering organized by the Delhi High Court, Justice Manmohan noted that the Constitution has been a consistent roadmap for India’s progress, embodying unity in diversity and fostering democratic ideals.

Reflecting on the judiciary’s pivotal role, he urged legal professionals to uphold the trust placed in judicial institutions. “Access to justice must not be a privilege but a right for all, particularly the vulnerable and marginalized,” he said. Justice Manmohan emphasized that courts bear the responsibility of being guardians of justice, fairness, and equality.

He recalled the visionary efforts of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and the Constituent Assembly, which framed a Constitution that has steered India through challenges and transformations over the past 75 years. While the ideals initially seemed ambitious for a nascent republic, the nation has risen to achieve significant milestones in social, economic, and political development.

Justice Manmohan unveiled a plaque featuring the Preamble of the Constitution at the event. He reiterated that the judiciary must ensure equitable enforcement of constitutional rights without bias and reminded the audience that no individual or institution stands above the law.

He concluded by urging the legal fraternity to recommit to the Constitution’s ideals and strive for judicial excellence. “Creating a just, inclusive society where every individual’s rights are safeguarded is a task of Herculean proportions, but one that is within our capabilities,” he stated.
