JNU Leads Early as Vote Counting Begins for Students’ Union Elections
JNU witnessed high political energy as the first round of vote counting for the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) Election 2025 concluded. The Left alliance surged ahead in all four major posts President, Vice President, General Secretary, and Joint Secretary after the first round. The results reflected the continuation of the Left’s stronghold on campus politics, as students eagerly awaited the next rounds of counting.

Around 9,043 students were eligible to vote in this year’s election. Despite intense campaigning, the voter turnout stood at 67%, slightly lower than the 70% recorded in the previous polls and the decade-high of 73% seen in 2023–2024.

The 2025 JNUSU election saw seven candidates vying for the president’s seat, three for vice president, and five each for general secretary and joint secretary. While the JNU vote counting drew attention, the national capital’s air quality showed a slight improvement on Wednesday but remained in the ‘poor’ category, with an AQI of 273. According to CPCB’s Sameer app, 27 monitoring stations registered poor air, while Shadipur recorded a ‘very poor’ reading of 308. The minimum temperature was 18.4°C, and humidity stood at 89% at 8:30 AM.

Meanwhile, political activity extended beyond campus as Delhi geared up for the MCD bypolls scheduled for November 30. The nomination process is underway, with parties including AAP, BJP, and Congress actively finalizing candidates. Both the BJP and AAP view the bypolls as crucial to shaping their influence in the city’s political landscape.
