The Indian Navy is set to commission the survey vessel Ikshak, marking a significant advancement in India’s hydrographic survey capabilities and maritime self-reliance. Ikshak is designed for comprehensive coastal and deep-water hydrographic surveys of ports, harbours, and navigational channels. The ship is equipped with state-of-the-art hydrographic and oceanographic instruments including a high-resolution multi-beam echo sounder, Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV), Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV), and four Survey Motor Boats (SMBs). Additionally, the vessel features a helicopter deck broadening its operational reach.
Beyond its primary survey mission, Ikshak also serves dual functions as a Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) platform and can be configured as a hospital ship during emergencies. It has a displacement of approximately 3,400 tonnes, length of 110 meters, and complements a crew of 231 personnel.

The commissioning of Ikshak enhances the Indian Navy’s hydrographic and charting infrastructure crucial for maritime navigation safety and national security.
