Ahead of Mahakumbh 2025, a major initiative to bolster fire safety at the world’s largest spiritual gathering will see the introduction of robotic fire tenders. These robots, which can climb stairs and navigate difficult terrains, will help extinguish fires quickly and efficiently. The deployment of these advanced machines is part of a broader strategy to improve emergency response times and safeguard millions of visitors expected at the event in Prayagraj.
Padmaja Chauhan, Additional Director General (Fire Services), explained that the robotic fire tenders, weighing between 20-25 kilograms, will be able to reach locations that are typically inaccessible to human personnel. “The inclusion of robotic fire tenders marks a technological leap in fire management. “Chauhan added that the robots can be easily deployed in sensitive zones and operate with precision, ensuring faster and safer responses to emergencies.”
In addition to the robotic fire tenders, Mahakumbh 2025 will feature other state-of-the-art fire safety measures, including AI-powered fire detection cameras, high-tech water towers, and an articulating water tower capable of spraying water from heights of up to 35 meters. A team of 200 specially trained fire commandos will back these technologies to ensure effective management of fire incidents during Mahakumbh 2025.
To further strengthen safety, authorities have raised the fire safety budget to ₹67 crore, compared to ₹6 crore during the last Kumbh. The overall objective is to achieve a “Zero Fire Incident” outcome, with daily fire audits and stringent checks to prevent unsafe practices within the fairgrounds.
The Mahakumbh 2025 event is not only a celebration of spirituality but also a demonstration of how advanced technologies can contribute to public safety at large-scale gatherings.
