The BJP-led Mahayuti alliance, victorious in the Maharashtra assembly elections, is taking a calculated approach to naming the next Chief Minister. Despite securing a significant 235 seats out of 288, internal deliberations within the BJP, Shiv Sena (Shinde faction), and Ajit Pawar’s NCP faction have delayed the announcement.

State BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule emphasized, “The alliance will jointly decide the CM candidate after detailed discussions. Our focus is ensuring a stable government framework.” The BJP’s central leadership has deployed observers to mediate between stakeholders, aiming to address the demand for balanced representation across regions and allies.

While Devendra Fadnavis is a leading contender for the position, Eknath Shinde’s camp strongly advocates his retention, citing his contributions to infrastructure and community welfare. Shiv Sena spokesperson Sheetal Mhatre stated, “Shinde’s leadership reflects trust and progress; we believe he should continue.”
