Three Indian Naval Ships — Landing Craft Utility (LCU 51, LCU 54, and LCU 57) — recently visited Colombo, Sri Lanka, from November 22nd to 25th, 2025, as part of an operational port call aimed at furthering maritime cooperation between the two navies.
Strengthening Maritime Collaboration
The ships were ceremoniously welcomed by the Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) upon arrival. As part of their Operational Turnaround (OTR), commanding officers met with the Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka and the Commander Western Naval Area of SLN. The discussions centered on improving operational interoperability, advancing ongoing maritime initiatives, and exploring future partnerships. Activities like ship-visits and a friendly volleyball match between personnel from both navies further promoted camaraderie and mutual respect.
Sharing Knowledge and Building Friendship
A structured visit was organised for SLN officers and sailors, offering first-hand insights into the operational capabilities of Indian LCUs. The interaction fostered a richer understanding and paved the way for continued collaboration in maritime security and capacity-building. These efforts, with LCUs from the Andaman and Nicobar Command, reinforced the tradition of friendship, respect, and strategic cooperation between India and Sri Lanka.
Conclusion
The port call by Indian Naval to Colombo is a testament to the growing bilateral naval engagement and the shared commitment of India and Sri Lanka to regional stability and maritime security.
