PCB Chairman Confirms Hosting Champions Trophy 2025 Amidst Challenges

One of the significant concerns surrounding the tournament is India's participation, given the political tensions between India and Pakistan.

Breaking News

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is determined to host the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, despite facing significant challenges. In recent statements, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi reaffirmed the board’s commitment to the tournament, with a focus on ensuring international participation. The PCB chief emphasized the importance of the upgrades to key stadiums in Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi, ensuring that these venues meet international standards well before the competition begins.

Naqvi acknowledged the ambitious nature of the task, as the current stadium facilities in Pakistan do not yet align with global benchmarks. However, he remains optimistic that the upgrades will be completed in time for the Champions Trophy. “The work is progressing around the clock, and we’re hopeful that the stadiums will be ready to host all teams,” Naqvi said.

One of the significant concerns surrounding the tournament is India’s participation, given the political tensions between India and Pakistan. However, PCB’s strong stance against a “hybrid model” — where India would play its matches in a neutral location — has led to tensions with the ICC. Pakistan’s government has made it clear that it expects India to participate in the tournament in Pakistan. The PCB has firmly rejected any alternative model that does not include all matches being played in Pakistan.

While the political situation remains delicate, Naqvi’s confidence reflects the PCB’s determination to proceed with the tournament as planned. The board has already started working on infrastructural improvements and other logistical requirements, such as the construction of a hotel near the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore to accommodate teams and officials.

The 2025 ICC Champions Trophy is scheduled to take place in Pakistan for the first time since 2008, a historic event that could bolster the country’s international cricket stature. The PCB is working hard to overcome any obstacles to make this event a success.
