NEW DELHI: The Union Government has issued a decisive ultimatum to India’s industries regarding the National Single Window System (NSWS). Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has made it clear: without substantial feedback and participation from businesses, the ambitious project could be shelved.

The NSWS, a hallmark reform under Aatmanirbhar Bharat, aims to streamline industrial approvals, ensuring faster clearances through a unified digital platform. Currently, the portal integrates 18 central departments and nine state services, with plans to expand further. It features a “Know Your Approval” module, common registration forms, and centralized dashboards for improved investor accessibility. However, Goyal emphasized that meaningful industry inputs are essential for refining and enhancing the platform.

Launched to reduce bureaucratic delays and boost ease of doing business, the NSWS is positioned as a game-changer for attracting global investments. Goyal highlighted its alignment with initiatives like Make in India, the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, and the India Industrial Land Bank. These programs collectively aim to fortify India’s position as a global manufacturing and export hub.

India’s private sector is already stepping up to the challenge, with companies like Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) playing a pivotal role in digital transformation projects. TCS, known for its expertise in large-scale technological implementations, has been a key partner in various government initiatives, including digital portals and e-governance platforms. Industry experts believe that collaborations with leaders like TCS could enhance the efficiency and scalability of the NSWS, ensuring its long-term success.

During a recent address, the Minister stressed that the platform’s success is interlinked with private sector collaboration. He reiterated the importance of using the portal to identify pain points and contribute ideas for improvement. “The world is watching India. If we cannot strengthen this platform with your support, we may have to let it go,” he warned.

India’s push for enhanced ease of doing business comes as it secures record FDI inflows and steady GDP growth. With the NSWS, the government aims to provide end-to-end facilitation for investors, reducing compliance burdens and ensuring transparency. However, the project’s future hinges on active industry cooperation and engagement.
