Filmmaker Prakash Jha recently met Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to discuss the state’s new film policy, aimed at boosting film production in the region. The policy, which was introduced in 2024, is expected to make Uttarakhand a prime destination for filmmakers. During the meeting, Jha praised the state’s efforts to streamline the film production process through its single-window system, which simplifies permits for filmmakers. He expressed optimism that the new policy would help Uttarakhand gain more recognition in the film industry, attracting both domestic and international filmmakers.

The Uttarakhand Film Policy 2024 offers significant incentives, including financial grants and subsidies for filmmakers shooting in the state. The policy provides up to Rs 2 crore for regional films and up to Rs 3 crore for Hindi and other language films recognized in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution. Additionally, it offers a no-fee shooting policy for most state departments, excluding protected forest areas, and promotes new shooting locations that highlight lesser-known but picturesque parts of the state.
