National Test House and Department of Posts Sign MoU to Enable Strong Nationwide Sample Collection and Testing: 2025

Breaking News

In a major boost to consumer protection and quality assurance, National Test House (NTH) and the Department of Posts, Government of India, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to facilitate nationwide doorstep sample collection and secure transportation to NTH laboratories for testing. The collaboration aims to expand access to reliable testing services, reduce turnaround times, and strengthen quality compliance across sectors.

Doorstep Sample Pickup Using India Post’s National Network

Under the MoU, the Department of Posts will provide doorstep pickup of samples from customers across India and ensure safe, reliable, and timely delivery to NTH laboratories. The service will leverage India Post’s extensive reach across urban, rural, and remote regions, addressing logistical challenges that have historically limited access to testing services.

Samples will be transported to NTH laboratories located in Kolkata, Ghaziabad, Mumbai, Jaipur, Guwahati, Varanasi, and Chennai, enabling seamless end-to-end logistics for testing.

MoU Signed on National Consumer Day: National Test House

The MoU was signed on December 24, 2025, on the occasion of National Consumer Day, at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. The signing took place in the presence of Pralhad Joshi, Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, and B. L. Verma, Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution.

Enhancing Accessibility, Affordability, and Efficiency

This strategic partnership is expected to significantly improve accessibility and affordability of NTH’s testing services by:

  • Reducing logistical barriers and turnaround time

  • Enabling testing access for MSMEs, startups, manufacturers, and businesses in far-flung areas

  • Strengthening consumer protection mechanisms through easier compliance and verification

By integrating trusted postal logistics with accredited testing infrastructure, the initiative promotes ease of doing business and encourages a culture of quality, compliance, and standardisation.

Aligned with Atmanirbhar Bharat and Citizen-Centric Governance

The collaboration aligns with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, underscoring the role of quality and standardisation in building consumer trust and enhancing global competitiveness. It also reflects effective inter-ministerial cooperation, optimally utilising public infrastructure to deliver citizen-centric services at scale.

Conclusion
