The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has appointed Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani as central observers for the upcoming Maharashtra legislature party meeting. This decision comes amid ongoing suspense surrounding the selection of Maharashtra’s next chief minister.
The BJP has scheduled its legislature party meeting for December 3 to elect its leader, with Devendra Fadnavis expected to be chosen. The party has instructed all BJP Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) to gather in Mumbai for the event.
Despite Mahayuti’s decisive victory in Maharashtra with 230 out of 288 seats, the government remains unformed.
BJP secured 132 seats, Shiv Sena captured 57, and NCP led by Ajit Pawar won 41 seats.
The oath-taking ceremony is scheduled for December 5 at Azad Maidan in Mumbai, with Prime Minister Modi attending.
BJP is cautious due to rising aspirations among alliance partners, particularly Shiv Sena, with differing views within.
Shiv Sena MLA Gulabrao Patil claimed Eknath Shinde’s faction would’ve won more seats without NCP’s alliance, provoking NCP reactions.
The BJP has yet to hold its legislature party meeting, even though Shiv Sena and NCP have already elected Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar as their legislature party leaders. Discussions are ongoing about whether only the chief minister and deputy chief ministers will take the oath on December 5 or if other ministers will also be sworn in.
Eknath Shinde, who traveled to his village in Satara, expressed his support for the BJP’s decision on the chief minister’s post, affirming that both he and Shiv Sena would accept it.
