Breaking News

Škoda Auto India has officially opened bookings for its latest offering, the Kylaq, a compact SUV designed to cater to the growing demand for sub-4-meter vehicles in India. Launched on December 2, 2024, the Kylaq is Škoda’s most affordable model yet, with a starting price of Rs.7,89,000 (ex-showroom), and deliveries are set to begin by January 27, 2025.

The Kylaq marks a significant step in Škoda’s India strategy, being the first sub-4-meter SUV by the brand. According to Klaus Zellmer, CEO of Škoda Auto, “India is key to our internationalisation plans, and SUVs represent 50% of new vehicle sales in the country.” Škoda aims to achieve 100,000 annual car sales in India by 2026, an ambitious target given that it took the company two years (2022 and 2023) to reach this figure.

Key Specifications of the Škoda Kylaq

The Kylaq measures 3,995 mm in length, 1,783 mm in width, and 1,619 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,566 mm and a ground clearance of 189 mm. The SUV is powered by a 1.0 TSI engine, delivering 85 kW of power and 178 Nm of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 10.5 seconds, and offers a top speed of 188 km/h. The Kylaq is also available with a six-speed automatic transmission featuring paddle shifters in select variants.

Based on the MQB-A0-IN platform, the Kylaq shares its foundation with other successful models like the Kushaq and Slavia, both of which have received a full 5-star rating in Global NCAP tests for adult and child safety.

Safety Features

Škoda has equipped the Kylaq with over 25 active and passive safety features, including six airbags, anti-lock brakes, Electronic Brake Distribution, traction control, and ISOFIX child seat mounts, among others.

Design and Features

The Kylaq features Škoda’s “Modern Solid” design language, with a shiny black grille, clean lines, and a reinterpretation of the iconic “four eyes” headlights. The SUV also introduces the new Škoda wordmark on its rear, further enhancing its sleek look.

Inside, the Kylaq boasts six-way electrically adjustable seats with ventilation for the driver and front passenger. Select variants also come with an electric sunroof. The cabin features a bamboo-fibre infused dashboard, a 25.6 cm infotainment screen, and a 20.32 cm Virtual Cockpit for the driver. Additional tech includes wireless Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and wireless charging.

The Kylaq also offers practicality with a 446-liter boot that expands to 1,256 liters with the rear seats folded down.

Sustainable Manufacturing

Škoda emphasizes sustainability with the Kylaq, as 30% of the power used at its Chakan plant comes from solar energy, with plans to increase this to 75% by 2026. The plant is water-positive, contributing more water than it consumes, and has planted over 660,000 trees.

Fun Fact

The name “Kylaq” was selected through a nationwide naming campaign and is derived from the Sanskrit term for crystal, inspired by Mount Kailash.

With the Kylaq, Škoda is set to strengthen its foothold in the Indian market while delivering a well-rounded, stylish, and sustainable SUV for the masses.
