DHAKA: Chinmoy Krishna Das, a prominent Hindu leader and member of the Sammilita Sanatani Jagaran Jote, continues to remain in custody in Bangladesh. His bail hearing, originally set for November, has been postponed to January 2, 2025, following the absence of his legal representation. Notably, his previous lawyer, Raman Roy, was critically injured in a violent attack and is currently hospitalized, raising serious concerns about security for those defending Das.
ISKCON leaders have urged the Bangladeshi government to enhance protection for advocates in sensitive cases like this. Das was arrested on November 25, following allegations of sedition linked to disrespecting the national flag during a Hindu rally. Heightened security measures were observed around the court premises during the proceedings. However, the absence of lawyers underscores the increasing challenges faced by minorities and their advocates in Bangladesh.
The Hindu community and international organizations have expressed concerns over the case’s handling and demanded fair treatment and safety for those involved.
