Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Varun Sardesai has questioned the discrepancies between postal ballot trends and Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) results in the recent Maharashtra assembly elections, urging the Election Commission (EC) for clarification.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Sardesai, who represents Vandre East, pointed out that the early postal ballot trends, counted first, showed a significant difference from the final EVM results in many constituencies. He emphasized that postal ballots generally set the early voting trend, and this deviation from expectations raised serious concerns.
“In the Lok Sabha elections, postal ballot trends and final results were almost in sync,” Sardesai stated. “However, the assembly election results seem to contradict this trend by showing major discrepancies.”
He analyzed data from 40 assembly constituencies, where the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) won 20 seats and lost 20. Sardesai compared assembly and Lok Sabha results, noting postal ballot trends differed significantly from EVM results in the assembly. But after the EVM votes were counted, MVA secured only 46 seats, while Mahayuti claimed over 230. How could this happen?”
Sardesai highlighted discrepancies in Worli, Guhagar, and Palus-Kadegaon, where postal vote and EVM vote gaps were substantial.
“We are not accusing anyone, but the discrepancies highlighted by the data raise doubts. The Election Commission should address these concerns,” Sardesai concluded, urging the EC to provide clarity on the issue.
