Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Devendra Fadnavis has been unanimously elected as the leader of the Maharashtra BJP Legislative Party. Following his election, Fadnavis is set to take the oath as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra on December 5. The swearing-in ceremony will take place at Mumbai’s Azad Maidan on Thursday, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to attend.
Fadnavis’ candidacy for the top post was finalized during a core committee meeting of the BJP, which was held prior to the legislature party meeting. Key BJP leaders present at the meeting included Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, and Fadnavis himself.
The BJP has appointed Sitharaman and Rupani as central observers for the Maharashtra legislature party’s meeting.
On the same day, BJP leader Sudhir Mungantiwar announced that the Mahayuti alliance partners will meet with Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan at 3:30 PM on Wednesday to formally stake their claim to form the new government in the state.
