SRINAGAR: The Kashmir Valley continues to shiver under biting cold as sub-zero temperatures enveloped most areas, marking one of the coldest spells of the season. Srinagar recorded a low of -2.1°C this week, maintaining freezing conditions from the previous days. While many regions experienced similar frigid nights, Pahalgam emerged as one of the coldest spots with temperatures plummeting to -3.2°C.
Higher altitudes across the Valley received fresh snowfall last week, intensifying the cold wave sweeping the region. In addition to the plummeting temperatures, Kupwara and Gulmarg also reported freezing lows, with the mercury hovering below zero.
The Meteorological Department forecasts a likelihood of light snow and rain in the higher reaches by early December. This weather pattern is expected to bring temporary relief from the cold spell in the lower regions but could intensify the chill in the mountains. Residents have been urged to prepare for fluctuating conditions in the coming days.
As winter tightens its grip, authorities emphasize precautions for tourists and locals venturing into snowy and icy terrains, ensuring safety amid extreme conditions.
