NEW DELHI: Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, recently emphasized that the Northeast region has witnessed a remarkable 300% increase in budget outlay since 2014 under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
According to Sonowal, this significant financial boost demonstrates the government’s unwavering commitment to the development of the Northeast. The region has seen investments in infrastructure, connectivity, and key development initiatives, contributing to economic growth and improved quality of life for its residents.
The budgetary increase has enabled numerous projects, including better connectivity through roads, railways, and waterways, as well as infrastructure for ports and urban development. Sonowal credited the strategic vision of the central government for creating opportunities that would ensure the region’s all-round development and integration into the broader national economic landscape.
Highlighting the role of projects like transportation infrastructure and resource management, Sonowal stated that these efforts are transforming the region into a gateway for trade and connectivity. Moreover, this initiative aligns with the vision of inclusive development, ensuring the Northeast’s strategic and economic potential is fully harnessed.
The 300% growth in budget outlay signals a significant policy shift focused on bridging gaps in development and fostering regional progress.
