MUMBAI: The Maharashtra government has concluded the allocation of ministerial portfolios following the swearing-in ceremony on December 5. This development comes as part of the Mahayuti alliance’s efforts to streamline governance after their landslide victory in the state elections.
Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has retained two critical portfolios—Home and Finance—underscoring the BJP’s dominant position within the coalition. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, heading the Shiv Sena faction, continues to lead the Urban Development Ministry alongside other departments such as Transport and Environment. Ajit Pawar, also a Deputy Chief Minister, has been assigned Agriculture, while other leaders from the NCP faction, such as Chhagan Bhujbal and Aditi Tatkare, have been given influential portfolios.
Sources indicate that the portfolio distribution reflects strategic decisions to address key voter concerns ahead of the legislature’s winter session starting December 16 in Nagpur. BJP secured 22 ministries, while the Shinde faction of the Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar’s NCP received 10 and 11 respectively.
The balanced portfolio allocation seeks to ensure regional development and effective governance while navigating coalition complexities.
