Samajwadi Party to Exit MVA Following Controversial Babri Demolition Remarks by Uddhav Thackeray’s Aide

Breaking News

MUMBAI: The Samajwadi Party (SP) has announced its decision to leave the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance following controversial remarks and an advertisement by Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders celebrating the demolition of the Babri Masjid. This move underscores increasing political friction within the opposition alliance in Maharashtra.

Maharashtra SP unit chief Abu Azmi confirmed the decision, citing a newspaper advertisement by Shiv Sena (UBT) and a social media post by Uddhav Thackeray’s close aide Milind Narvekar that hailed the 1992 demolition of the Babri mosque. According to reports, Narvekar shared a photo of the demolition with a quote from Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray that read: “I am proud of those who did this.”

Azmi directly questioned the ideology and intentions behind such remarks, emphasizing, “If anyone in the MVA speaks such language, what is the difference between the BJP and them? Why should we stay with them?” His comments signal that the SP views these actions as an ideological misalignment that breaches core values of secularism and social harmony.

The decision comes at a critical time as the MVA, a coalition of Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and SP, attempts to strengthen its position against the BJP’s growing influence in Maharashtra. SP’s departure is expected to impact the opposition’s unity, as the party holds two key MLAs in the state.

The political landscape is now shifting, with internal divides threatening the opposition’s strength. Analysts speculate that this development will reshape strategies in Maharashtra’s upcoming political engagements.

The controversial Babri demolition and its celebration have reignited debates on communal sensitivities and the role of regional parties in maintaining secular governance. SP’s walkout will likely fuel these discussions as Maharashtra navigates its political future.

As the situation unfolds, the coming weeks will see increased scrutiny on the strategies of MVA leaders and their ability to maintain coalition stability.
