Ajithkumar Custodial Death Case Exposes How a False Theft Allegation Changed a Family Forever

Ajithkumar custodial death case has once again drawn attention after the Central Bureau of Investigation informed the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court that it has closed the theft case filed against the deceased. Ajithkumar, a 29-year-old temple guard at the Madapuram Badrakali Amman temple in Sivaganga district, was taken into custody in June 2025 for questioning related to a theft complaint. Following the CBI’s submission, Ajithkumar’s mother, B Malathy, publicly demanded legal action against the complainant who had accused her son of theft. She stated that the closure of the theft case has now clearly established that her son was innocent and that his death occurred during an unlawful and violent interrogation.

According to the investigation, the theft complaint was filed by J Nikitha, based on which Ajithkumar was picked up for questioning. The CBI later found no evidence linking him to the theft and formally closed the case. This development has intensified calls for accountability, especially from the victim’s family, who believe the false complaint triggered a chain of events that led to Ajithkumar’s death.

Ajithkumar Custodial Death Case and the Questions Raised by the Family

Speaking to the media, Malathy questioned how her son was identified as a suspect and why the police acted with such certainty without proof. She asked how the police concluded that Ajithkumar was guilty and why he was subjected to extreme physical assault during interrogation. She stated that her son was not even given basic necessities such as food or water while in custody.Caught on CCTV: Brutal Custodial Death of 27-Year-Old Ajithkumar in Tamil Nadu Sparks Outrage |news9

Malathy described the incident as a complete failure of law and humanity. She said that even an accused person has rights and that no law permits torture under any circumstance. She demanded to know who ordered the assault and who authorised the actions of the police personnel involved.

She also insisted that the arrested policemen in the Ajithkumar custodial death case should not be released and that every individual responsible must be held accountable. According to her, if the police truly believed Ajithkumar was involved in the theft, they could have followed legal procedures such as remand. If he was innocent, he should have been released immediately. Instead, she said, her son lost his life inside police custody.

Malathy added that she comes from a poor background but raised her children with strong values. She firmly stated that Ajithkumar and his younger brother were never involved in any illegal activities. From the first day, she believed her son was innocent and said she is now waiting for the court to officially confirm it.

Ajithkumar Custodial Death Case and the Impact on Other Victims

Legal counsel for the family stated that several others were also subjected to torture during the same investigation. These include Ajithkumar’s brother Naveenkumar and others named Praveenkumar, Arun, and Vinoth. The family has also faced social stigma since the theft allegation created a belief among some people that Ajithkumar was guilty. The closure of the theft case, the counsel said, legally establishes Ajithkumar’s innocence and exposes the damage caused by the false accusation.

The CBI registered two separate cases related to the incident. One was related to the custodial death, and the other concerned the alleged jewel theft. In the custodial death case, the agency has filed a chargesheet against ten police personnel, including a Deputy Superintendent of Police. The investigation into the theft case has now been completed and officially closed.
