COLOMBO: Sri Lanka’s President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is scheduled to visit India from December 15 to 17, marking his first official overseas trip since assuming office in September. The visit highlights the significance of Indo-Sri Lankan relations, particularly in the context of regional stability and economic cooperation.
During his visit, President Dissanayake will hold high-level discussions with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu. He will be accompanied by key officials, including Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath and Deputy Finance Minister Anil Jayantha Fernando. The invitation was extended by Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar during his October visit to Sri Lanka.
The visit comes amid efforts to strengthen ties following India’s substantial economic assistance of $4 billion during Sri Lanka’s financial crisis in 2022. President Dissanayake’s administration aims to reinforce bilateral ties while addressing contentious issues, including Indian investments in Sri Lanka. He had previously raised concerns over certain projects but now seeks to foster mutual cooperation.
