In a heartfelt tribute to the late Former Karnataka Chief Minister SM Krishna, who passed away on Tuesday at the age of 92, Karnataka Agriculture Minister N. Chaluvaraya Swamy announced plans to propose the creation of a “Knowledge City” in Bengaluru, named after Krishna. Swamy expressed his intention to write to the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister, emphasizing the importance of recognizing the contributions of the visionary leader.

SM Krishna, who had been suffering from a prolonged illness and was hospitalized earlier in August, played a key role in the development of Bengaluru’s IT sector. Swamy described him as a “great leader” who significantly contributed to the state’s growth. In a social media post, he expressed his sorrow at Krishna’s death, calling it an “irreparable loss” to both the state’s and the country’s politics.

Swamy further hailed Krishna’s leadership as a “rare model,” noting his pivotal role in the development of Karnataka’s IT and biotechnology industries, which created vast employment opportunities. Krishna, who served as Karnataka’s Chief Minister from 1999 to 2004 and later as the External Affairs Minister under the UPA government, was known for his visionary leadership and his pivotal role in shaping “Brand Bengaluru.”
