In a candid conversation during Variety’s Actors on Actors with Andrew Garfield, Ryan Reynolds revisited the moment he lost the Best Actor award at the 74th Golden Globe Awards in 2017 to Ryan Gosling. Reynolds, who was nominated for his iconic role in Deadpool, shared that he didn’t feel great about losing to his namesake, Gosling, who took home the honor for his performance in La La Land.
Reynolds humorously recalled the experience, saying that he and Garfield, who was sitting beside him at the time, had joked about the outcome. Garfield even teased Reynolds, suggesting that if his name was called, he should kiss him instead of his wife. Despite this light-hearted moment, Reynolds admitted that he was disappointed, even though he holds a deep admiration for Gosling’s work.
While the situation may have seemed trivial in hindsight, Reynolds acknowledged that it was a tough moment for him. He jokingly confessed to having “axed” Gosling’s house out of childish frustration, but laughed it off, admitting that it was all in good fun.
In 2017, Reynolds faced stiff competition, with fellow nominees Hugh Jackman, Colin Farrell, and Jonah Hill also in the running. However, neither Reynolds nor Gosling received nominations for the 82nd Golden Globe Awards, where both actors featured in blockbuster movies Deadpool 3 and The Fall Guy. The 82nd Golden Globe Awards will be streamed in India on January 6, 2025, hosted by Nikki Glaser.
