Congress leader Rahul Gandhi met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Wednesday, requesting the removal of allegedly derogatory comments made against him in Parliament. The remarks, linked to accusations involving international figures like George Soros and the investigative group OCCRP, were made by BJP MPs Nishikant Dubey and Sambit Patra during a debate. These comments prompted protests from Congress MPs, resulting in a temporary adjournment of the House.
Gandhi emphasized the need for the Parliament to function smoothly, stating, “Our aim is to ensure debates happen in the House.” He reiterated the opposition’s demand for a discussion on allegations involving the Adani Group and accused the government of diverting attention with baseless allegations against him.
The controversy escalated when Dubey linked Gandhi to Soros and questioned if foreign funding was involved in the Bharat Jodo Yatra. Congress responded by filing breach-of-privilege notices against the BJP MPs, demanding accountability.
Outside Parliament, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra defended her brother, calling the accusations baseless and highlighting his dedication to the nation. The Congress party remains steadfast in its demand for a fair discussion on critical issues.
This development reflects the growing tension between the opposition and the ruling party during the ongoing Winter Session of Parliament.
