The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has successfully dismantled a gold extraction and refining operation in Mumbai, seizing 23.92 kilograms of gold, Rs.5.4 lakh in cash, and 37 kilograms of silver, with a total value of Rs.19.6 crore. The operation was the result of an intelligence-led raid that led to the discovery of a facility reportedly used to melt smuggled gold.

DRI officials arrested the alleged mastermind behind the syndicate responsible for the illegal operation. The gold seized during the raid is believed to be smuggled, as the operator failed to provide any credible documentation or explain the gold’s source.

The arrest followed statements gathered from workers and helpers at the facility, which helped DRI agents piece together the illegal activities taking place. A DRI source emphasized that the agency remains committed to combating gold smuggling across India.
