Delhi Schools Targeted by Bomb Threats for Second Time in a Week

The Delhi Police continue to investigate the source of the emails, while security measures have been strengthened around schools to ensure the safety of students and staff.

Breaking News

In a disturbing repeat of incidents earlier this week, bomb threat emails were sent to 16 schools in Delhi on Friday, prompting a swift response from security agencies. This follows a similar scare on December 9, when at least 44 schools received bomb threat emails, later confirmed to be hoaxes by authorities.

Someone sent the threats to various schools, including Bhatnagar International School in Paschim Vihar, Cambridge School in Shri Niwas Puri, DPS Amar Colony in East of Kailash, and others. The emails, received between 4:21 am and 8:30 am, mentioned activities like parent-teacher meetings and sports day events, followed by a warning of bomb blasts on Friday and Saturday. The Delhi Police, fire department, bomb detection teams, and dog squads immediately dispatched personnel to conduct thorough checks at the affected schools.

To ensure the safety of students, the authorities advised parents to either keep their children at home or pick them up if they had already arrived at school. Cambridge School’s principal, Madhavi Goswami, discovered the email during her morning routine and promptly alerted the police. She reassured parents that the situation was under control and announced online classes for the day.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal expressed concern over the repeated bomb threats in his social media posts, questioning the impact on students’ mental well-being and studies. Kejriwal, who had criticized the Delhi Police and Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the earlier threats, again raised the issue, calling for immediate action to address the situation.

On Monday, the previous round of bomb threats caused widespread panic across the capital, as 44 schools evacuated thousands of students while security forces searched the premises.

By the afternoon, the Delhi Police declared the threats to be hoaxes after they found no explosives.

The Delhi Police are continuing to investigate the source of the emails, while they have strengthened security measures around schools to ensure the safety of students and staff.
