Bengaluru: A team from the Bengaluru Police has traveled to Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, to investigate the alleged suicide of a 34-year-old techie in Marathahalli. The police are focusing on his wife, Nikita Singhania, who is accused of abetting the suicide and misusing divorce laws.
The police visited Singhania’s residence, but as the house was locked and no family members were present, they served a notice for her and four others named in the case to attend the investigation. To prevent any law-and-order issues, a heavy police presence was placed around the residence.
The notice stated, “There are reasonable grounds to interrogate you to ascertain the facts and circumstances. You are directed to appear before the investigating officer in Bengaluru within 3 days.”
Reports indicate that Nikita, along with her brother Anurag—who is also named in the case—left their Jaunpur home late Thursday night, riding a motorcycle. Footage of their departure went viral on social media as the suicide case gained widespread attention.
The deceased techie was found hanging in his apartment on Monday morning, with a suicide note and video accusing his wife of repeated harassment and extorting a large amount as alimony. He reportedly shared the note via email and WhatsApp with several people, including an NGO he was associated with, and hung a placard in his home that read, “Justice is due.”
According to Marathahalli Police Inspector Anil Kumar, the authorities were alerted by the engineer’s neighbors around 6 am on Monday. The body was later sent for autopsy at the CV Raman Nagar Government Hospital, and the family received it on Tuesday.
The Bengaluru Police have now filed an abetment of suicide case against Nikita Singhania and four of her family members.
