Goa Police are on high alert after Siddiquie Suleman Khan, a proclaimed offender involved in land grabbing cases, escaped police custody early Friday morning. Khan, who had been evading arrest for over four years, was arrested by the crime branch on November 12 and had been in their custody for the past 30 days.
Superintendent of Police (Crime Branch), Rahul Gupta, confirmed that Khan managed to escape from the crime branch’s lock-up around 2:30 am, aided by India Reserve Battalion (IRB) constable Amit Naik. The two fled the scene on the constable’s motorcycle.
Khan is accused in several land grabbing cases, and police had been working to bring him to justice for the past few years. After his escape, the Goa Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) at the Old Goa police station and swiftly sealed the state’s borders to prevent him from fleeing to neighboring regions.
Efforts are now underway to track down both Khan and the accused constable. The Goa Police are also coordinating with neighboring states to apprehend the duo quickly. In response to the incident, a report will be sent to senior officials for further action against constable Naik, and a detailed inquiry will follow.
