PESHAWAR: On Saturday, cultural enthusiasts and film lovers in Pakistan gathered at the historic Kapoor House in Peshawar to commemorate the 100th birth anniversary of Bollywood legend Raj Kapoor. The event, which highlighted Peshawar’s deep connections to Indian cinema, featured a cake-cutting ceremony to honor Kapoor, one of the most influential figures in the history of Indian film.
The celebration not only paid tribute to Raj Kapoor’s legacy but also underscored the cultural significance of Peshawar in the world of cinema. Kapoor, who was born in the city, is considered a pioneer of Bollywood and an iconic figure whose films have left a lasting impact on the industry.
The event was further marked by the announcement from the World Bank, which pledged Rs 100 million for the restoration of the ancestral homes of Raj Kapoor and another Bollywood legend, Dilip Kumar. Both homes, located near the famous Qissa Khawani Bazaar in Peshawar, are seen as significant landmarks that symbolize the city’s rich historical ties to the Indian film industry.
