Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday criticized the Congress for hindering farmers’ welfare and promoting river water disputes between states. Speaking at the “Ek Varsh-Parinaam Utkarsh” event in Jaipur, which marked one year of the BJP government in Rajasthan, Modi accused the Congress of not allowing any progress for farmers and neglecting their needs.

He cited the delay in completing the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP) as evidence of Congress’s failure to address the state’s water challenges. “The Congress never wanted to solve the water issues; instead, they promoted disputes over river waters,” Modi remarked, emphasizing the BJP’s approach of cooperation over opposition.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the BJP’s commitment to resolving water issues through dialogue between states. “We believe in cooperation, not opposition. We believe in solutions, not disruption,” he stated, mentioning the agreement on the Parvati-Kalisindh-Chambal project between Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.

Modi also criticized the Congress and NGOs for obstructing the Sardar Sarovar Dam project in Gujarat, accusing them of using various tactics to stop the initiative aimed at alleviating water shortages.

During the event, Modi laid the foundation for 24 development projects worth ₹46,400 crore, covering areas like energy, roads, railways, and water. He also highlighted the benefits of the Parvati, Kalisindh, and Chambal project, which will improve irrigation and provide drinking water to 21 districts in Rajasthan.

Reflecting on the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Modi praised the historic mandate given to the NDA for a third consecutive term and commended Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma for his efforts in strengthening the state’s development.
