A loud “blast-like” noise near the Islamabad Police Station in Amritsar on the early morning of December 17, 2024, triggered panic, but authorities later confirmed it was not an explosion. The noise was heard by the police sentry at around 3 a.m., but no damage or injuries were reported.
Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar explained that the noise was caused by a heavy object falling onto a temporary police sentry post outside the station. The only damage was to the iron sheet atop the post. Although social media users had claimed responsibility for the incident, Bhullar dismissed the claims after verifying them.
“The situation is under control,” Bhullar stated, adding that several individuals linked to previous incidents had been apprehended. He also revealed that the police were focusing on suspects, including Aman Khokhar, who were involved in past security breaches.
This incident comes after a series of similar blasts in the region. In September 2024, a blast occurred in Chandigarh, and earlier in May 2023, two low-intensity explosions were reported near Amritsar’s Golden Temple. In both cases, the authorities confirmed the use of crude devices.
Amritsar Police assured the public that the situation was being closely monitored, and citizens were urged to stay calm. The investigation is ongoing to determine the full details of the event.
