The Allahabad High Court has granted anticipatory bail to Sushil Singhania, the uncle of the estranged wife involved in the Bengaluru techie suicide case. The decision was made by Justice Ashutosh Srivastava, who reviewed an anticipatory bail plea filed by Singhania’s family. His wife, brother, and mother have already been arrested by Bengaluru police in connection with the case.
Senior counsel Manish Tiwary, representing Singhania, argued that the arrests were based on a suicide note and a viral video. He emphasized Singhania’s elderly age and physical limitations, stating that he could not have played a role in abetting the suicide.
The court, after considering the arguments, granted the bail, with conditions including two sureties of Rs. 50,000 each. Singhania must also cooperate with police investigations, refrain from influencing witnesses, and seek court approval before leaving the country.
The investigation into the suicide of techie Subhash, who was found dead in his Bengaluru apartment on December 9, continues. Subhash left behind a 24-page suicide note alleging harassment by his wife and her family over dowry demands. A 90-minute video further detailed his grievances. In his note, Subhash accused his wife of demanding excessive monthly maintenance for their child.
The police have charged the wife, her mother, brother, and uncle with abetment of suicide. The wife was arrested in Gurugram, while the mother and brother were detained in Prayagraj. All three were transferred to Bengaluru and placed in judicial custody.
