BJP MP Nishikant Dubey launched a strong verbal attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday, accusing him of indulging in “hooliganism” during a protest inside Parliament. The incident, which took place in the Parliament complex, involved Rahul Gandhi allegedly pushing BJP MP Pratap Sarangi, who had sustained an injury to his forehead during the protest.
A video of the confrontation, which has since gone viral, shows Dubey sitting next to the injured Sarangi and accusing Rahul Gandhi of misbehaving. “You don’t have any shame… What Rahul, what? You indulge in gundagardi (hooliganism)… You threw down an elderly person… gundagardi karte ho,” Dubey is seen saying to Gandhi in the video.
In response, Rahul Gandhi, while speaking to the media, denied the allegations and instead accused BJP MPs of blocking his entry into Parliament. He claimed that BJP MPs had attempted to push and threaten him as he tried to enter the premises, and he also referenced an incident involving opposition leader Mallikarjun Kharge being pushed. Gandhi emphasized that the central issue was the BJP’s attacks on the Constitution and its disrespect for the legacy of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
The BJP swiftly rejected Gandhi’s accusations. BJP MP Pralhad Joshi stated that there was ample space for Gandhi to pass, but that he had unnecessarily pushed BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra. Joshi further mentioned that CCTV footage would shed light on the true events.
Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal also added that BJP MP Mukesh Rajput had been injured during the altercation. Following the incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called both Sarangi and Rajput to inquire about their well-being.
The incident has fueled further tension between the Congress and BJP, drawing significant attention in the political arena.
