A private school in Delhi’s Dwarka area received a bomb threat on Friday, prompting immediate action by authorities. According to the Delhi Police, emergency response teams were deployed to the school, and as a precautionary measure, all classes were moved to an online mode.
This incident is part of a growing trend of bomb threats affecting schools across the national capital. On December 14, Delhi Police’s Special Cell identified a student from a private school in Paschim Vihar as the source of a bomb threat email. The student had sent the threat email, and following an investigation, the police traced the IP address to the student’s home. Upon questioning, the child confessed and was later counselled, with his parents given a warning.
The Delhi Police reported that multiple schools received similar bomb threat emails on December 14 and 17, and on December 13, 30 schools were targeted with hoax threats. Further investigation into the December 13 threats revealed that the emails had been generated from outside the country.
This ongoing issue has raised significant concerns among local leaders. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal expressed his worries about the psychological and academic impact such threats could have on students, emphasizing the disruption caused to their education and mental well-being.
In response to these recurring threats, the Delhi High Court had previously instructed the Delhi Government and Police to develop a comprehensive action plan, including a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), to address bomb threats and ensure student safety. The court set a deadline of eight weeks for the implementation of these measures.
