Billionaire Jeff Bezos has dismissed claims that his upcoming wedding to fiancée Lauren Sanchez will cost an extravagant $600 million. The Amazon founder took to X (formerly Twitter) to set the record straight, calling the reports “completely false.”
The rumors, which were circulated by media outlets including the Daily Mail and the New York Post, suggested that Bezos and Sanchez were planning a lavish wedding in Aspen, Colorado, at the exclusive Matsuhisa restaurant. The event, reportedly scheduled for December 26-27, was said to include around 180 guests and a multi-day celebration at actor Kevin Costner’s 160-acre ranch.
Bezos responded to these allegations by agreeing with investor Bill Ackman, who had mocked the extravagant claims, pointing out that it would be impossible to spend $600 million on a wedding unless each guest were given a house. Bezos added that the reports were “completely false” and urged his followers to be cautious about the information they consume, noting that “lies can get ALL the way around the world before the truth can get its pants on.”
Lauren Sanchez also joined in on the denial, sharing Bezos’s post on her Instagram Stories with the words “not true” superimposed.
These rumors emerged after Bezos and Sanchez’s 2023 engagement in Italy, which was attended by prominent figures such as Bill Gates, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Queen Rania of Jordan. Despite the over-the-top claims about their wedding plans, Bezos and Sanchez have made it clear that no such event is in the works.
