Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav took a jibe at the BJP on Monday amidst the ongoing excavation work in Sambhal district, Uttar Pradesh. Yadav criticized the party for its efforts in the region, stating, “They will keep searching like this and one day, by digging and digging, they will end up digging their own government,” as reported by ANI.

The excavation in Sambhal, led by a team from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), has unearthed a historic stepwell, or ‘baoli’, in the Chandausi area. District Magistrate Rajendra Pensiya confirmed that the stepwell covers an area of 400 square meters and is believed to date back to the time of Bilari’s king’s grandfather. The stepwell, identified in revenue records as “Bilari ki Rani ki Bavadi,” features four chambers with marble floors on the second and third levels and brickwork on the upper floors. Experts estimate the structure to be over 150 years old.

The discovery was made after a local temple, the Shiv-Hanuman temple, was reopened for the first time in 46 years. The ASI team also conducted a survey of the Kalki Vishnu temple in the district, inspecting several shrines and wells, with a report expected to be submitted soon.

Krishna Kumar Sonkar, the executive officer of the municipal corporation, noted that excavation began immediately after a local officer from the Sanatan Sewak Sangh alerted authorities to the potential presence of the stepwell.
