Former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli has been admitted to Akriti Hospital in Thane after his health took a sudden turn for the worse over the weekend. The 52-year-old’s condition remains critical, though stable, according to reports. Kambli, who was last seen at the unveiling of a statue of his former coach Ramakant Achrekar at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park, was rushed to the hospital late on Saturday night.
Kambli, who has faced ongoing health challenges in recent years, has previously opened up about his struggles. He revealed that a month ago, he had experienced severe dizziness and collapsed due to a urinary issue. His son, Jesus Cristiano, rushed him to safety, and his wife and daughter were there to support him during this difficult time. He was hospitalized at that point for further treatment.
In addition to these recent issues, Kambli has a history of heart-related health problems. He underwent two heart surgeries in 2013, which were financially supported by his childhood friend and cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar. Kambli has always spoken fondly of Tendulkar, who stood by him during his medical difficulties, covering the costs of his surgeries and offering emotional and financial support.
Over the years, Kambli’s health issues have attracted the attention of former cricket stars, including Kapil Dev and Sunil Gavaskar, who have expressed their willingness to help him through rehabilitation.
Kambli’s contributions to Indian cricket are well-remembered, particularly for his record-breaking performances in Test cricket. He played 17 Tests and 104 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) for India, including memorable innings that earned him four Test centuries, two of which were double centuries. He was also the first Indian player to score consecutive double centuries in Test cricket.
Fans and former teammates are rallying behind Kambli, wishing him a speedy recovery during this challenging time. Further updates on his health are expected as the medical team continues to monitor his condition.
