Former cricketer Vinod Kambli is currently undergoing treatment at Aakriti Hospital in Thane after his health deteriorated over the weekend. Kambli, 52, was admitted on Saturday evening after experiencing muscle cramps, dizziness, and a high-grade fever. Dr. Vivek Dwivedi, who is treating Kambli, confirmed that while his vitals are stable, his brain condition remains concerning.
Dr. Dwivedi shared that Kambli had difficulty walking due to muscle cramps and was found to have a urine infection, as well as deficiencies in sodium and potassium. These issues contributed to the muscle cramps. A brain scan revealed old clots, likely from a recent stroke, leading to his admission to the ICU due to low blood pressure. However, the doctor assured that Kambli’s condition is improving, and he is expected to be discharged within the next 2-3 days.
Despite the positive updates, Dr. Dwivedi emphasized that Kambli’s brain condition is unstable, with degenerative changes present. The medical focus is now shifting toward rehabilitation.
Earlier this month, Kambli made a public appearance at a memorial for his former coach Ramakant Achrekar, alongside childhood friend Sachin Tendulkar. His health seemed to raise concerns during the event, prompting well-wishes from the cricket community.
In a statement after his hospitalization, Kambli expressed his gratitude toward Tendulkar for his ongoing support, stating he felt better and would always cherish his cricketing memories. Kambli has faced various health challenges, including two heart surgeries in 2013, which were supported by Tendulkar.
