Imphal: In a significant security operation, security forces in Manipur’s Churachandpur district seized 3.6 kilograms of explosives from under a bridge, authorities confirmed on Wednesday. The operation was carried out by the Assam Rifles in collaboration with Manipur Police, based on specific intelligence regarding the presence of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in the region.
The explosives were discovered near Leisang village, located along the Imphal-Churachandpur route. According to a statement from the Spear Corps, the joint search operation led to the recovery of not just the explosives, but also detonators, cordtex (a type of detonating cord), and other accessories. The materials were hidden beneath a bridge on the busy route, highlighting the potential threat posed to local security.
Spear Corps shared the details of the successful operation on the social media platform X, stating, “Acting on specific intelligence regarding IEDs in the general area of Leisang village, Assam Rifles, in coordination with Manipur Police, launched a joint search operation. The team recovered 3.6 kgs of explosives, detonators, cordtex, and other accessories under a bridge on the Imphal-Churachandpur route.”
The timely recovery of these explosives is expected to have prevented a potential threat to the region’s safety. This seizure underscores the ongoing vigilance and proactive measures being taken by security forces to neutralize such dangers and ensure peace in the area, which has been affected by unrest in the past.
