Peshawar: A polio vaccination worker was kidnapped by unidentified gunmen on Tuesday from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan, an incident that has raised concerns about the safety of health workers in the region. According to police reports, the victim, identified as Sher Ayaz, was taken from Shewa tehsil in the North Waziristan tribal district, which borders Afghanistan.
The kidnapping occurred as Ayaz was working as part of the ongoing polio vaccination campaign in the area. Following the abduction, local authorities launched an intensive operation to rescue the kidnapped worker. Police teams raided multiple suspected hideouts, hoping to locate Ayaz, but their efforts were unsuccessful so far.
This attack comes amid continued threats to health workers in Pakistan, where militants have previously targeted polio teams and workers involved in vaccination efforts. Polio remains a persistent challenge in certain regions of Pakistan, and the abduction of workers further complicates efforts to eradicate the disease.
The police are continuing their search for Ayaz, while authorities have urged local communities to cooperate in ensuring the safety of health personnel working in such sensitive areas.
