Renowned filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra recently shared a deeply personal experience from the early 1980s, following the disappointing reception of his debut feature film, Sazaye Maut. In a candid interview, Chopra revealed that he became so disillusioned that he contemplated ending his life.

“I was standing on the Lonavala highway, watching the trucks pass by, just one step away from death,” Chopra recounted. “But the love for my family held me back.”

This period of despair occurred while he was writing his next project, Khamosh. Despite the initial setback, Chopra persevered and went on to create critically acclaimed films such as Parinda (1989) and 1942: A Love Story (1994). He also produced major hits like Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. (2003), 3 Idiots (2009), and PK (2014).

Chopra’s recent directorial venture, 12th Fail, released in 2023, has been well-received, marking another successful chapter in his career. Reflecting on his journey, he emphasized the importance of resilience: “The joy is not in the result but in the fighting.”
